Program Title

HVAC Technician – (Distance)

Program Description

The HVAC Technician Certificate Program offers a comprehensive, 100-clock-hour training experience delivered entirely online, specifically designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as an HVAC Apprentice (SOC: 49-9021.00) in residential and light commercial environments. Admissions requirements: applicants must be 16 years, U.S. resident, proficient in English. High School Diploma/GED required. We accept PSEO/Dual Enrollment students and Ability to Benefit (ATB) candidates who pass the required testing. The curriculum is structured to provide a deep understanding of core industry principles, covering essential HVAC maintenance, electrical fundamentals, refrigeration principles, and sophisticated troubleshooting techniques for circuits, residential A/C systems, compressor diagnostics, and heat pump operations. Instructional delivery utilizes flexible strategies, primarily focusing on self-directed study, skills demonstrations, and immersive Virtual Reality (VR) labs. A critical component of the program is the provision of essential training tools: students receive a dedicated laptop or a VR headset. This technology allows for full access to the VR labs, which replicate real-world HVAC scenarios in a safe, guided, simulation-based setting. Students can practice vital skills such as maintenance, troubleshooting, electrical diagnostics, and refrigerant handling, helping them build confidence before transitioning to actual job sites. Upon successful completion of the course requirements, the Credential Awarded is a Certificate of Completion. Additionally, the program includes material, preparation, and proctoring for three critical, industry-recognized certifications. These credentials are key to employment: the EPA 608 Universal Certification is required by federal law for anyone handling refrigerants; the OSHA 10-Hour Certification validates foundational knowledge of workplace safety standards; and the NATE Ready to Work Certificate confirms essential, entry-level HVAC knowledge valued by employers. Evaluation throughout the program is rigorous, utilizing knowledge checks, practical skills demonstrations, and summative assessments. A minimum score of 70% is required in each module to successfully earn the Certificate of Completion. Students can typically complete the coursework in 9 to 11 weeks. .
